Meet Dr. Omar Hussain
Dr. Omar Hussain is the newest member at Asheville Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. He was born and raised in Pewaukee, Wisconsin where he completed his high school education. He attended dental school at his father’s alma mater de Montmorency College of Dentistry in Pakistan. He graduated as valedictorian of his dental school class before returning to the United States where he attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. It was in Philadelphia that he met and became good friends with Dr. Benjamin Mancia and his wife.
Following his graduation from UPenn, Dr. Hussain moved to New York City where he completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at New York Medical College. He returned to Wisconsin to serve the veteran population at the Milwaukee VA Hospital Center. His time there as Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery involved teaching oral surgery and prosthodontics residents. He specialized in major bone grafting procedures, and implant dentistry managed benign tumors and cysts, performed corrective jaw surgery for obstructive sleep apnea, and worked with ENT and Plastic Surgery as a component of the cancer care coordination team. He worked closely with the prosthodontics department to develop complex implant treatment plans. During this time, he also completed his board certification in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
While at the VA, he developed a passion to care for both medically complex individuals as well as those with mental health issues, often treating combat veterans and POWs with severe PTSD and dental anxiety. Dr. Hussain enjoys the challenge of reconstructing debilitated dentitions while taking the time to create a comfortable experience for each individual. He understands that many people have anxieties about being in the dental chair and takes time during appointments to ensure his patients are at ease.
Dr. Hussain is married to his wife Ramsha who is currently a dental student at Columbia University. They both enjoy hiking, new restaurants, museums, cooking, and music. He is an avid skier and golfer and loves spending time with his wife and their cat Bao.
